Developing a Faithful Presence of Christian Faculty

The Newbigin Fellows program is an 18-month cohort experience focused on exploring Christian identity and interfaith cooperation on non-Christian campuses. The Carver Project and Interfaith America will run a total of three cohorts over the next three years. Each cohort will include 8-10 Christian faculty who will be designated as Newbigin Interfaith Fellows. We are pleased to offer Newbigin Fellows $4,000 in gratitude for their time, energy, and contributions to the cohort experience.

Newbigin Fellows will be asked to do the following over the course of their 18-month cohort experience:

1. Attend five ninety-minute Zoom meetings. The first four meetings will include reflections by fellows about the challenges and opportunities of living out their Christian faith in non-Christian higher ed, conversation with Eboo Patel and John Inazu, and discussion of a shared reading. The final meeting (at the end of the cohort experience) will include participants sharing about their interfaith activity.

2. Attend one in-person cohort convening in the spring of their cohort year. Fellows will be asked to invite a local pastor or ministry leader to attend the convening with them. All expenses will be covered for fellows and their ministry partners to attend this convening.

3. Write a blog post or participate in a podcast. Create content with themes related to the project that may be cross-posted on Carver Project and Interfaith America platforms.

4. Organize one interfaith activity on their campuses (public event, reading circle, classroom discussion, or other approved activity) on themes related to those discussed over the course of their fellowship.
